Hi Folks-

Actually, I want to give Julie at least some of the credit for coming up with the idea of a website and blog. She e-mailed me after looking at our Six Watsons holiday web page (http://www.faywatson.com/sixwatsons/winter_holiday.htm), and asked if it might not be possible to do something similar leading up to the Rue Reunion this summer. I can't take credit for the holiday web pages either (my talented wife Fay created those), so I asked Fay if she thought it could be done for the Rue family. What you see here and at http://www.ruefamily.us represents a beginning.

Julie will remember that in early August of 1978, Buck Rue and I hopped in his pickup truck one night about midnight and headed out from Casey to go and rescue her and her then-husband Mike Rule from a Texaco station in Lufkin. They were stranded there with all their worldy possessions in a U-Haul trailer, and it was hot (even at night). It was my first exposure to Texas, and I believe probably her last. On the way down I asked my grandfather the question that had always been on my mind (both my mom and grandmother knew I had a talent for staying up late and for making innane conversation--thats why they sent me); namely, when he married Alice, did it occur to him that the two of them might go on to produce so many descendants (and of course there are many more now that there were in 1978!). Well, Gosh no, he said (okay, okay, we all know Buck Rue actually used stronger language than that), he surely didn't. How could any man plan on so many?, he added. He said they did have it in mind to have several children, since during the depression and thereafter, more children meant more hands to contribute labor.

In my mind, 130+ descendents in five generations, starting with two strong individuals, is a truly remarkable story (perhaps even a book). Maybe we can capture a bit of it here. Fay and I hope to hear from at least some of you soon.

Welcome to this Blog

The blog belongs to me (Fay) personally, but Dave and I will post to it and anyone can comment. If you want to communicate with me directly, then please email instead of commenting. I will try to answer email in a timely manner. We really thought as big as the Alice and Buck Rue Clan has become that the family needed to have its own website, so I looked around for a domain name that wasn't spoken for (ruefamily.us) and started a site using Google Page Creator.

I would love to have family photos for the different families and a family tree to post. My preferred method for posting images is through Picasa by Google. Let us know what you think...and give us some ideas for more content. --Fay
